CATHERINE VICKI
ARTIST, PHOTOGRAPHER, DREAMER
I am a Sydney-born artist residing and in the beautiful land of Oz (Australia). I enjoy using photography and painting as a method for artwork creation. Photographic images are the source material for my artworks, which are layered with paint and often framed in decorative gold.
My journey in photography began three decades ago, when straight out of high school I studied Fine Arts. I immediatley fell in love with the magnificence of the dark room and undertook a Bachelor in Photography & Digital Imaging.
Starting my career as a Professional Photographer in 2000, the past 24 years have been spent photographing everything from portraits to fashion to corporate and weddings. My career has been spent mostly photographing women.
The passion that has always woven itself throughout my life is art making and telling peoples stories through art. In 2017 I created my first Art Portrait for an exhibition, and have since exhibited in Galleries throughout Australia, New York and Japan.
ARTISTIC PROCESS
My artistic process starts with a photo shoot of my client. As a photographer and artist my work is to create photographs that capture the essence of a person, and an artwork that tells their story. I typically take 30-60 photographs during a shoot. My photography style is a mix of fine art and fashion. I process these images and find the most striking image to use as the basis for the artwork. The client has input on image selcction.
The artwork is created using various mixed media materials including acrylic paint and gold leaf. Each painting is different and largely inspired by the photograph. Some artworks are bright and colourful, others are dark and moody. The mood and inspiration for the painting really comes from the photograph and the clients desires for their artwork.
My life experiences, interactions and passions, all manifest in my artwork. Even though a portrait tells a person’s story, it is also a reflection of the artists story. That is the magic of creation and art.
