Keeping Sweet in the Wait

On the weekend my family and I travelled to Cowra in country NSW for a wedding. The lovely couple was Bek and Noel. Bek and I have been friends for seventeen years. We met when we were both single, and had a big group of single friends. Over those seventeen years many of our friends got married and had children. Bek was still single… and still loving life! Sure she longed to meet the love of her life, get married and have kids, but she kept sweet in the wait.

We all go through waiting seasons in our lives. You could be waiting to meet the love of your life, waiting to finish your studies, waiting to get a promotion, waiting to buy a house, waiting to discover your purpose, waiting for your health to improve, waiting to fall pregnant, waiting for your marriage to get better…. whatever it is you are waiting for, here are 4 tips on Keeping Sweet in the Wait.

1. Learn to Love Yourself First

We all want to be loved, but we must first love ourselves. If you don’t love yourself, perhaps it is a good idea to take time to understand the ‘why’. There will probably be a bit of soul searching. Talking to a counsellor or phschologist is never a bad thing. Most people I know have talked to a professional at different seasons in their lives. It is not a sign of weakness to seek help, it is actually a sign of strength. Instead of hiding and allowing your weakness to control you, You decide to take control. And that can only lead to a happier & healthier You!

2. Stop waiting and start living

The “dream” you are waiting for may take longer than expected or hoped for. It may not even come in the form you expect. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you will be able to stop waiting and get on with living.

3. You Are Enough

Understand that no dream is going to make you any more of a person than who you are right now.

4. Don’t Give Up

There are so many examples of ordinary people throughout history who had a dream that they didn’t give up on despite continued failures, obstacles & discouragement. Inventor Thomas Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” If you believe in something that you know in your heart is part of your reason for existance, don’t give up on it.
