So you’re getting married! Well Congratulations!! Your wedding day has many aspects to it, but one of the most important parts of your day is your Wedding Photography. Most of what you will plan for your big day will be just for that one special day. Wedding flowers, wedding cake, wedding invitations, wedding cars, they are all in the past once your wedding day is over. But your wedding photography will be with you forever! And that is why you need to get it right.
There are also no second chances with your wedding photography. You cant exactly meet up a week later and do a reshoot! So let me give you my tips when it comes to your wedding photography.
- Do your research.
Look around at lots of different wedding photographers websites, and you will get a feel for the different styles that exist. Decide on the kind of style you want your photography to have, the “look” that resonates with you.
- Check out the various wedding packages available.
Once you have a feel for your style, find 5 or 6 local photographers that photograph in your style and have a look at their wedding photography packages. Don’t necessarily go for what is cheapest. Think about what is most important to you in a package. Visit your top 3 or 4 and have a look at their wedding albums. By meeting the photographers you will also get a feel for who they are, and whether you feel comfortable with them. Your photographer is with you your whole wedding day, so you want them to feel like a friend.
- Get a real Wedding Album.
Unless you are a photographer or graphic designer, make sure you get a package with a real physical wedding album. Don’t just buy digital files on a disk. I can guarantee the majority of people that have done this, still don’t have a decent wedding album to this day. Why? Who has time to sift through 2000 images, and the skill and expertise to professionally retouch photographs and design an album? Only professionals that do it for a living, that’s who! Professional wedding photographers also have access to beautiful quality wedding albums that you can’t buy in the shops.
- Do an Engagement Shoot (aka pre-wedding shoot)
All of my wedding photography packages come with an engagement shoot. The purpose of this is three-fold. Firstly, having your photographs taken by a professional can be a daunting thought. Many people initially feel a bit nervous about the idea. Having a pre wedding shoot allows you to break the ice with the photographer, and have your photographs taken with her/him prior to the wedding day. This helps you to be much more comfortable on the big day. Secondly it helps the photographer get to know you photographically, and how to shoot you best. This all helps towards capturing the best wedding photography for you! And thirdly, as a result of an engagement shoot you have beautiful photographs that capture this special time of engagement. My packages also include a gorgeous custom framed photograph to display at your wedding reception. This is usually positioned on an easel near the signing book, or can be even used as a ‘signing photograph’ where guests write messages on the matt board surrounding the photograph.
- And lastly – Have fun with it!
Your wedding day is one of the best days of your life, so have fun and be confident! Know that you look amazing, and own it. Don’t be afraid to express your love, just go for it! When a couple are having fun, feeling confident, and openly expressing their affection the result is the most beautiful wedding photography!
