Hair trends come and go: remember when “The Rachel Hairstyle” from the TV show ‘Friends’ was the coolest thing around? These days we’re more likely to wear our hair with a loose curl, or put it all up in a messy bun. Fashions come and go but a few hair fashions stand the test of time. Whether you wear your hair long or short, light or dark, straight or curly – it really doesn’t matter if the style suits your appearance and personality. Join us as we go through 7 of our favourite clients hair styles from our past and more recent Glamour Photos.
1. SIDE BRAID
A forever favourite. The best way to achieve a sturdy side braid is to start with day-old hair. Before getting started spray on a little bit of texturizer, brushing it through to your ends. Then, pull all of your hair to one side and braid it down to the ends. Once you reach the ends, secure your braid with a miniature elastic and wrap a small section of hair around it for a more natural-looking finish.
2. Big Glamourous Curls
This look would have to be the most popular hairstyle we have ever had in the studio. From 1950’s Old-Hollywood Hair to 1980’s Farrah Fawcett hair, this look has stood the test of time. According to hair stylists there is one very big secret to big loose waves – texture. If you have super-straight locks, your hair routine needs to add some serious texture to your strands before you begin to style. There are many different methods to creating the Big Wave, but this one above was created using a large barrel curling wand.
3. TEXTURED TOP KNOT
Forget about a super-smooth ballerina bun—this hairstyle is all about a perfectly imperfect textured top knot. Nowadays, the inclusion of wispy flyaways and frizzy hair makes for an of-the-moment look that’s nothing short of trendy. To pull off this hairstyle all you have to do is pull your hair into a high ponytail, tease your ponytail, and loosely wrap it around itself. Once it looks just right, pin it in place with a few bobby pins and give it a little extra staying power with a spritz of the hairspray.
4. UNDONE UPDO
In the realm of perfectly imperfect hairstyles, few look as effortlessly stunning as the undone updo. The trick to creating this hairstyle is to start with a hair mousse. Once your hair air dries, gather it into a messy clump and pin it into place with a bunch of bobby pins at the back of your head. Be sure to leave a few face-framing strands out to add an ethereal touch to your messy hairstyle. If you want to add a bit more elegance to this hairstyle, wrap your face-framing strands around a curling wand and pop in a flower for a touch more romantic feminine flair.
5. HALF UP HALF DOWN
When you have long hair, gathering it into a half up, half down style is probably one of your go-to looks for formal events. It’s a simple style, but the half-do look is effortlessly glamorous when you pair it with beachy waves. When you tease the heck out of your hair at your crown, the more volume at the top of your head will make an elegant contrast with long flowing locks. Leave some face-framing tendrils out to achieve this look.
6. Short Layered Hairstyle
Layer-cutting can shape and enliven hairstyles. It is easy to blow-dry layered hair into a wide spectrum of different modern looks. Layers also increase the volume of your locks and help prevent split ends. In order to increase volume when your blow dry your hair use a medium barrel round brush. Before finishing the style, tuck some hair behind your ear and leave some forward. This is the key to the look.
The many variations of ponytails are arguably the all-time favourites among hairstyles. No other hairstyle is quite as adaptable, beautiful, and suitable for all occasions. Popular style elements like twirls and braids can be easily integrated into ponytail hairstyles. This simple version of the ponytail is sophisticated and understated.
